A remarkable collection of works by Thomas Baines (1820-1875), vividly recording a 19th century British exploration of northern Australia and parts of Indonesia, faces permanent export overseas unless a UK buyer can be found to match the sale price of the works, £2,750,000.

An important painting by Pop-artist Sam Walsh donated to the nation under the Cultural Gifts Scheme

One of the city’s best-known and loved paintings The Dinner Party by Sam Walsh (1934-89), has been gifted to the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool under the Cultural Gifts Scheme introduced by the UK Government last year. This is the fourth gift under this major initiative to encourage philanthropy to the UK’s public museums, galleries and archives.

London organisations to receive funding as Arts Council England announces investment plans for 2015 to 2018

Today (1 July) Arts Council England announces details of its investment plans for the next three years including its new national portfolio of arts organisations and museums.

Between 2015-18 247 organisations across London will receive more than £487,991,536 of investment from the Arts Council. This will include investment in 245 National portfolio organisations and 2 Major partner museums.
